Bike Pretty turned four years old a couple weeks ago. And I am proud to say that we have
never rarely covered the Tour de France. This is in spite of the million and one promotional emails that I get leading up to the event.
It's almost as if people just assume that a blog with "bike" in the name will automatically cover the biggest cycling competition of the year.
This year, on the eve of the start of the race, I will magnanimously make an exception. But only to feature the gob-smackingly beautiful editorial Tour de France by Elle Vietnam.
The fashion story is a simple tale of a new-fangled Parisian princess. Environmentally conscious and committed to sustainable shopping practices, our heroine eschews the motorcade for an elegant city bike (by Chanel, of course!).
When it comes to her wardrobe, she's a big believer in "think globally, shop locally". Because she lives in Paris, that means patronizing the finest maisons de Haute Couture.
She's not pretentious. But her trust fund includes a clothing allowance so she might as well spend the money where it will at least do some good for the indigenous artisans.
Besides, if Grandmére got wind of her stepping out in anything off-the-rack, she'd never here the end of it at Sunday Lunch.
☟ All of these images are stunning, but this one is my absolute favorite. I love how Mar Gonzalez makes a
dorky vented helmet look like a gorgeous sculptural turban!
Check out the behind-the-scenes video. Posing on a bike is not easy since it involves biking at perilously slow speeds in constant danger of toppling over. But it's imperative that you don't let any trace of fear show in your face. It's a little bit mind-boggling how Mar wrangles that train like an expert.
