Vintage Style Flare Jeans by Seafarer

Garance Doré directed this adorably bike-pretty video in honor of the relaunch of venerable American work-clothes brand Seafarer.

Established in 1900, Seafarer supplied bell-bottom denim work-pants to the U.S. Navy. When flare jeans became mainstream in the seventies, photos of Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, and Farrah Fawcett made the style emblematic of the era.

By the late nineties, production had ceased. The U.S. Navy changed their uniforms and the only way to get your hands on a pair was to search vintage shops. I was lucky enough to find a deadstock pair a few years ago and I wore them to rags.

But interest in the brand hasn't flagged. It's stronger than ever. Just this week saw the launch of a collaboration between Seafarer and high-fashion concept boutique Colette (Caution: Colette plays music on their site). The new collection has updated fits and fabrics. A new style features an exaggerated wide leg, and comes with an equally exaggerated price tag.
