The Straw Hat Bike Helmet is two separate pieces: a US CPSC certified bicycle helmet and a hat-style cover.

All of the Straw Hat Helmet covers are made by hand, so if you have some sewing skills, familiarity with millinery, and an experimental spirit, you can probably make your own straw hat bike helmet. Tap or click here to find my best tips if you want to try to make your own helmet cover.

Fit and Sizing
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Use a tape measure to measure your head circumference one inch above your eyebrows and compare that to the sizing chart on each product page on our website.
Keep in mind that head circumference is a great way of estimating your helmet size, but the only way to know for sure is to try it on. That is why we provide free returns and exchanges in most cases.

Many of the helmets available on bikepretty.com–like the Thousand Heritage or YAKKAY Smart 2–include an adjustable dial fit at the back and spare pads to fine tune the fit.
It's rare for a new bike helmet to fit perfectly right out of the box. Needing to adjust the retention system (straps and/or dial-a-fit) is very normal.
It can take a few minutes to adjust the fit of a bicycle helmet for comfort and safety. You'll get the best results by taking your time with the process. It's very similar to adjusting a bra for fit and performance!
The bike helmet you received may use a dial-fit system to fine tune fit. If so, turn the dial to the widest possible setting before placing it on your head. Once the helmet is on, turn the dial in the opposite direction for a close yet comfortable fit.

My experience with all aspects of the Bike Pretty company have been beyond expectations. From ordering my straw hat helmet to any questions, I have been helped promptly. I had the most extraordinary experience with them after I was hit by a car while riding my bike. Several weeks after my accident and while I was recovering I wrote to thank them for their excellent helmet which saved me (according to my doctors) from a more serious injury. Rather than a concussion I was left with a bump and sore head - certainly much better than the alternative. Bike Pretty's response? They thanked me for letting them know then sent me a new helmet since I couldn't use the old one anymore. Then they sent me a "feel better" bouquet. I have NEVER been treated so well by any company. They made me feel like a friend rather than customer. But, then, they have made me feel like that every step of the way.

I ordered the straw hat/helmet combo. I had been searching quite deliberately to find a product that kept the sun off my face and offered riding protection. This was the best option that I could find. I originally ordered a size Large. I measured the circumference of my cranium at 22 1/4” which suggested Large. However, it was too tight, so I exchanged it for X Large which is a perfect fit. The straw hat has a bow and since I am a male, I didn’t want to look like Sophia Loren on the Amalfi Coast. I simply untied the bow and tucked the excess inside the band that goes around the hat. The straw hat/helmet combo is pricey at $179.00. However, it fits my needs to the tee. I am extremely happy with my purchase. One recommendation: don’t forget to tuck the elastic band of the straw hat under the bottom of the helmet. I neglected to do that, initially, and the hat blew off the helmet while I was riding. I highly recommend this product for sun protection and safety. Thank-you Bike Pretty.

I have a Yakkay helmet with a striped sun hat cover and my “daily driver” is an Electra Amsterdam. (I live at the beach on the east coast.) Every time I go out I get at least one comment-“Is that a bike helmet?!” I don’t feel weird wearing it into stores while I do my errands and it provides some sun protection. When I found this Straw hat cover I decided I had to have one! Thank you for bringing sun protection and fashion to bike helmets! ( This is coming from someone who has been across the country on a road bike, and used biking as a work out. As I get a little older, I find I am less interested in blocking out a bunch of time and gearing up to go out for a 30 to 50 mile ride. I’ve transitioned to using my comfy bike to run errands, hang with friends or get back and forth to work when the weather is nice, and I don’t want to look like a goober in cycling gear when I get where I’m going. 🤪 Instead of getting in my steps I’m getting in my pedals!)
