Bike Helmet Size Basics

Straw Hat Bike Helmet size chart and fit guide — how to measure head circumference, adjust with dial-fit, and choose Small, Medium, or Large

Getting the right bike helmet starts with the right size and a proper fit. Below is the current sizing for the Straw Hat Bike Helmet. Then I’ll show you how to measure and fine-tune the fit.

HOW ARE STRAW HAT BIKE HELMET SIZES MEASURED?

All bicycle helmets are sized by the internal circumference at the forehead line (measured along the helmet’s inner padding), typically in centimeters. Brands like Bern, Thousand, and YAKKAY all follow this system. The Straw Hat Bike Helmet uses our current Comfort Helmet base, which includes a dial-fit system to fine-tune your fit across the size range.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE HELMET SIZE FOR WOMEN?

The average adult head is about 57 cm (22.5 in), which corresponds to our Medium. If you’re unsure where to start, choose Medium; the dial-fit adjuster gives you room to fine-tune within the listed range.

If your measurement is a bit larger than average, consider the Large and adjust down as needed. If your measurement is a bit smaller than average, consider the Small and adjust up as needed.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR HELMET SIZE

Wear your helmet low and level. The front edge should sit about an inch (two fingers) above your eyebrows.

To measure: use a soft measuring tape (or a string) around your head from the center back, above the ears, to just above your eyebrows where the ends meet. Read the measurement where the tape overlaps.

TIP: No soft tape? Use string or yarn, mark the overlap, lay it flat, and measure the length with a ruler.

Compare your head circumference to the size chart above. Helmet sizes are shown in centimeters (with inch conversions). If you’re between sizes, I generally recommend sizing up and using the dial-fit to snug it down.

HOW TO ADJUST YOUR HELMET SIZE

Most Straw Hat Bike Helmets include a dial-fit adjuster. Open the dial to its wider setting, place the helmet on your head, then tighten until it’s secure yet comfortable. The dial-fit offers a generous adjustment range — for example, the Medium fits a range of approximately 54–60 cm (21–23.5 in).
