Last November, we were able to pack up the baby and attend the San Francisco Tweed Ride. The whole event was organized by our dear friend Melinda Greene, who also happened to make these charming commemorative lapel pins.

This was Melinda's second year organizing the ride and she did another fantastic job. Starting in Dolores Park and wiggling up to the Conservatory of Flowers, the group finished at the Twentieth Century Cafe in Hayes Valley. A lovely way to pass the afternoon!

A masterpiece of matching: note how the orange beading of her handbag coordinate with her brake cables and recall the floral print of her dress.

I'm getting early-90's vibes from her outfit, in the best possible way. Does anybody else see it? The folding bike is a smart choice for getting around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Great style and good genes. This mother-daughter pair came all the way from Sacramento to attend the Tweed Ride! And check out that cute penny-farthing print on her blue skirt. You can find more bike print dresses here.

Her tweed skirt is so flirty, belying this fabric's frumpy reputation. I would wear this outfit everyday.

Kevin and Mary Kay. If you ride regularly in San Francisco, especially if you attend Bike Party , you will probably run into either of these two.

Mark Stockmann Sullivan is modeling the stuffing out of his wool and corduroy ensemble. And I am struck by how delightfully incongruous our California palm trees and Mission style architecture look as a backdrop for an anglophilic bike ride.

Need some more tweed? I wasn't the only photographer on the ride. You can find more photos from that day on the Facebook event page. Follow the SF Tweed group to get updates about the next ride, as well as other tweed rides in California and beyond.

I was wondering what plans are being made for a Tweed Run, if any for this year? I am interested in participating.

    Hi Dr. Harmstead,
Thanks so much for reaching out!

To keep up the date with the San Francisco Tweed Ride, please check the Facebook page at this link: https://www.facebook.com/SF-Tweed-106656826032964/.

At the moment, San Francisco is under a shelter-in-place order through the end of May. Groups are forbidden from gathering. I’m not sure what the situation will be in November, but until there is widespread distribution of a vaccine for Covid-19, I anticipate that Bike Pretty will not co-host a Tweed Ride in San Francisco.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Thanks,
    Melissa

    Hi,
Is there any news about the 2020 SF Tweed Ride. I’m from up in the Sierra and want to make plans to be involved this year.

    Hi Therese,
Thanks so much for reaching out!

We have not encountered such a product in our travels, but you are not the first person to mention those concerns. Thanks so much for sharing!

Please let me know if you have any other questions :)

    Thanks!

I was wondering if you had anything to protect our hips or backs. We don’t always hit our head when we fall. Those are two of the other most common areas we land on when we fall. It’s dangerous out there!

    Merry Christmas,

    Therese
