Zubaz Challenge: Outfit of the Day
Outfit of the Day - Zubaz Challenge Edition
Let's be honest about outfit of the day blogs. It's easy to look great when you put together a bunch of cool, designer clothes. But what about taking something un-chic and making it work?
Two bloggers that I admire, Michelle of Kingdom of Style and Jennie of Going West, recently raised the difficulty level. They took a pair of sweatpants and did their very best to spin that straw into sartorial gold. See for yourself here and here.
Pretty good, right? I want to play that game too. Except I don't own a pair of sweatpants.
Way in the back of my closet, I managed to find something better worse: hot pink, acid-washed, Zubaz knock-offs by Ezze Wear. Yeah, these baggy 90s pants are the cheap copies of the ugliest pants ever made.
Basic rule of outfit proportions: when wearing something baggy on the bottom, wear something fitted on top. And vice versa.
I pulled out an old leotard. The sheen contrasts nicely with the acid washed texture. And I get a naughty thrill from pairing hot pink with red.
So far so good. Except I started to look like an off-duty, over-the-hill gymnast. Topping it off with a vintage swing coat made the outfit say "Polished" rather than "Laundry Day."
Heels were disqualified. Clearly sex appeal has no place in this outfit. But these silver-tipped oxfords from Aldo (knock-offs of these Lanvin beauties and similar to these) prove that I haven't actually given up on life cute outfits.
