The Hair Helmet 1789: Let Them Wear Helmets
The Hair Helmet 1789: A Revolutionary Look from Bike Pretty
What happens when Bike Pretty takes on 18th-century French fashion? You get The Hair Helmet 1789—a bike helmet so extravagant, it’s practically treason.
This powdered-wig-inspired masterpiece blends fashion history and bike safety into one glorious pouf. With towering curls styled in the iconic “hedgehog” shape made famous by Marie Antoinette, the Hair Helmet 1789 is my boldest creation yet.

And yes—under all that hair, it’s a real helmet. Because here at Bike Pretty, I believe your safety gear should turn heads and protect yours.
A Hair Helmet Fit for a Queen
Designed to resemble a gravity-defying powdered wig, the Hair Helmet 1789 is more than just a costume. It’s a fully functional, US CPSC standard bike helmet with a handcrafted cover styled into sculptural curls. Imagine if your favorite period drama took a joyride—this is the result.

What You See — and What You Don’t
From the back, all eyes are on the sculptural, curly powdered wig and the dramatic Straw Hat Cover perched on top. But hidden beneath the glamour is a standard bike helmet, along with a completely removable Straw Hat Bike Helmet Cover at the base.
The entire Hair Helmet 1789 is built using the same “breakaway” construction as our Straw Hat Bike Helmet Cover Only—meaning the ornate outer layer can detach cleanly from the helmet underneath.
This clever design not only allows for interchangeable looks (yes, you can be Versailles one day and minimal chic the next), but also maintains the safety function of a smooth, sliding helmet surface in the event of a collision.
Form, function, and French flair—all in one.
But Is It Street Legal?
Oui, absolutely. The Hair Helmet 1789 starts with a proper helmet base—no shortcuts here. I then added layers of visual trickery, poudre de mais, and vintage flair to create the illusion of 18th-century hair. The result? A silhouette that’s safe for modern streets and absurdly fashionable.
Ride Like Royalty
Whether you're gliding down an alley or riding to your next salon appointment, the Hair Helmet 1789 turns your commute into a journey through time. The look is part cosplay and all Bike Pretty.

Behind the scenes, I channeled my inner queen—literally. This photo is my tribute to Marie Antoinette’s iconic portrait in her chemise à la reine. Same pose. Slightly more helmet. Slightly less cake.
One of a Kind
You can recreate a bit of the look with the Straw Hat Bike Helmet—this clever accessory that helped build the foundation of this fantastical wig. It’s designed to pair with select helmet styles and adds a refined, vintage touch to any ride.
